What is Ramadan?

                                                                     Ramadan

First I want to note that I am not a Sheikh or student of knowledge.I just wanted to share and inform you all of what Ramadan is. My information comes from what I know and from this Book. The Quran encourages fasting as a means of seeking nearness to Allah.

"Verily, the muslim men and women, the believing men and women, the men and women who are obedient (to Allah), the men and women who are truthful (in their speech and deeds), the men and women who are patient, the men and women who are humble(before their Lord), the men and women who give charity, the men and women who fast, the men and women who guard their chastity (from illegal sexual acts) and the men and women who remember Allah much.Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward (i.e. Paradise)." (from page 1) Ahzaab 33:35

Fasting is a protection from desires and a shield from the Fire.

He (SAW) said: "There is not a servant who fast a day in the way of Allah, except that Allah removes his face from the Frie by the distance of seventy years because of that." (from page 3) Al-Bukhaare(6/35) and Muslim (no.1153)

The Quran was sent down on Lailatul-Qadr during the blessed month of Ramadan.

"The month of Ramadan in whch was reveled the Quran a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the Critrion (between right and wrong). So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadan), he must fast that month."(from page 10) Baqarah 2:185

Lailatul-Qadr (The night of decree)-This is when the Quran was sent down, it leads one who clings to it to the path of honour and nobility and rise him to the summit of distinction and everlasting life. Lailatul-Qadr is better then a thousand months.Soorah Qadr 97:1-5

To be able to fast you must:
1.Have the intention (An-Niyyah)
2.One must be Muslim
3. Not sick
4.Insane
5.Not a traveler
6.Puberty

First you eat the pre-dawn meal (suhoor). One should delay the suhoor. "And eat and drink until the white thread (light) of dawn appears to you distinct from the black thread (darkness of night)." Soorah Baqarah 2:187.

He(SAW) said:"Take suhoor for there is blessing in it."Al-Bukhaaree 4/120

Ones who don't have to fast are traveler, the ill , menstruating women and women having post-natal bleeding, frail elderly man and women, and the pregnant and breast-feeding women.

Break your fast (Iftaar) before praying the Maghrib prayer. One should hasten to break the fast. Allah says:
"Then complete your fast till nightfall." Baqarah 2:187

Insha'Allah (god welling) this gives you an insight to Ramadan. If you have question or want to know more just comment down below and i'll point you in the right way Insha'Allah.
